WD-40 Company Honors PDCA Painter as Tradesperson of the Year for Service to Community and Trade

2012-05-31 11:47:08::For Immediate Release

SAN DIEGO — May 23, 2012 — WD-40 Company, in partnership with Rebuilding Together, is recognizing painter Joel Hamberg of Portland, Ore., as the 2011 Rebuilding Together Tradesperson of the Year for the value he adds to his trade profession and exemplary service to his community. Joel is also a member of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA).

Joel Hamberg of Joel Hamberg Painting is a community leader who uses his knowledge and passion for painting to help people in need.  Nominated for his work at the historic Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Ore., Hamberg donated more than $60,000 in materials and labor to help restore the historic building, and encouraged other tradespeople to contribute to the cause.

“Getting the call that I had won was a welcome surprise, but I think there’re a lot of tradespeople out there doing great things and just not telling people about it,” said Hamberg. “We should share what we’re doing because people like to hear those kind of stories and it can trigger creative ways for others to give back to their communities.”

As winner of the national contest, Hamberg will receive a Super Bowl getaway for two, including air travel, lodging, game tickets and $500 in cash.  He will also receive $10,000 worth of products and tools, courtesy of Sears.

“Joel’s passion and generosity are obvious and he truly lives out one of WD-40 Company’s core values – making it better than it is today,” said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of marketing for WD-40 Company.  “As presenting sponsor of the Tradesperson of the Year contest for the second year in a row, we are proud to honor all of the skilled tradespeople nominated – our core end-users – for being leaders in their industries and generous in their communities.”
