I have been asked to paint a Marine travel lift. It is not much in area of surface, yet it is very labor intensive and I have been asked to give a bid. Has anyone done one of these? If not any thoughts on how to price this job? Thanks Kurt

Kurtncar,

When I have jobs that I haven't done I would have a few other paint companys with experince in doing that job and have them estimate it and then I would go from thier prices.

Thanks for the words Tommy, I am posting this because there is no one in my local area that does this work. I am hoping that someone out there may have either done this work or could give me a lead for a contractor or even Travel Lift themselves. Thanks again Kurt

We recently purchased a 45 foot manlift and wanted to paint it our company colors to stand out while working on our jobs. It probably took 3-4 men, 3 or 4 days for 2 coats of a 2 part epoxy. It really wasn't that tough and we had never had experience in this before. It's all about finding the right product and preparing the surface correctly. Same thing as painting a house. Good luck!

Thanks Mike, I am a one man team and I was going to use a direct to metal 2 coat system. So if I multiply out your numbers to one man I would get about 16 days and then add some more for the extra size plus materials that shoud give an accurate estimate. Did you have alot of prep work?

just curious,.. why would you not use epoxy?

DTM doesn't seem like a very good choice for that job huh.gif

Hey Rob, I usually would have used 2 part, however, my relationship with ICI is cold due to the lack of service. My Ben Moore rep suggested DTM as did others, so I thought I would give it a try. I also not intreseted in being exposed to all the chemicals in a two part process. Thanks Kurt
