Proposed Title: Clear wood finishes
Presentation Objectives: Describe the composition, application and performance characteristics of various clear wood finishes
Description: Lacquers: nitrocellulose, acrylic and catalyzed. Varnishes: alkyd, polyurethane and waterborne. Shellac. Acrylic urethane. Polyester.
Evaluating clarity, color, film build, hardness, flexibility, resistance to yellowing, etc.
Selection of application method. Adjustment of spray equipment and modifying flow characteristics with selected solvents. Recognizing and resolving finish problems: runs, sags, “orange peel,” overspray, “fish eyes,” “blushing,” drying inhibited by contaminants
