Thanks Brandt,
I have taken Mario Guertin’s advice, "when you enter you win." Remember he wrote that great article for "The Painter Rag" and PWC Magazinea few years ago? For starters we have won much of what we have entered (bragging), but even the process is rewarding (humble). We look for theses opportunities, and we either nominate ourselves or get an associate to nominate us. When you win its great marketing material. It's got to be worth a few extra bucks per job. Look around, particularly in the spring and you see lots of them. We even won top youth employer in the county, this year. There are lots of opportunities. Every year all the newspapers and local magazines do a "Best of." Go for it, we have won a bunch of those. Every year the PDCA has it’s awards. We have entered and won three PDCA PPIP awards. I recommend that everyone consider entering this year. Entering helps you get your act together, like when you have a party and it makes you clean and fix up your house. It creates a winning atmosphere around our company. Everyone likes to win! My uncle used to say "it's not bragging if you can do it." I say "Always be Marketing." Besides, it’s not about me, it’s about Nolan Painting. Our brochure runith over. PS. We are up again in the Top 50 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania, again this year. We will find out the placement on November 29th. Last year we were second in the state (first place loser;-). So we figured we would go for number 1 this year. We had the employee survey done in July and we had a 91% employee satisfaction rating. Last year we had a 98% satisfaction rating, so it doesn’t look good for moving up this year. I probably ticked off a few employees in the last year. Oh well. You'll hear me bragging if we come in first but probably not if we come in 50th. All the best, Kevin |

Kevin,
Congrats from the Northwest. We also have been marketing everthing and entering all the contests. We hired a professional photographer and co-oped with a large nationwide chain on a huge job, getting a great brochure and exposure. We highlighted waterbased finishes on antique woodwork in occupied areas. A winner all the way! Thanks for the reference to Mario and the Craftsmanship forum. See you and Brian out here next month for our seminar. You and your company have been a positive influence for both my company and PDCA. Best regards, Joel |
